FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz is accused of assaulting a Broward Sheriff's Office detention deputy in jail early Wednesday, officials confirmed.
The circumstances of the attack were unclear, but new charges have been added to his arrest record.
The new charges include aggravated assault on an officer, battery on an officer, and using an electrical or chemical weapon against a law enforcement officer, records showed.
Initial reports indicate the assault happened about 1 a.m. in the Broward County Jail where Cruz has been held since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 students and staff dead and 17 more wounded, on Feb. 14.
