Parking spaces at Dunbar train station to close for five months as new second platform is built

The number of parking spaces at Dunbar train station will be reduced for the next five months – causing misery for commuters from next week.

Network Rail have announced that they'll be cutting the amount of spaces from Monday, with 21 of the 76 closing down. They will remain closed until Monday, 11 November.

This is to allow construction work on the new £13 million second platform to be carried out.

The platform is being built on the northbound 'down line' at the station to "provide increased capacity and improve operational flexibility on the East Coast Main Line".

Network Rail say it will be long enough to accommodate the new 10-car Hitachi Super Express Trains.

There are said to be aspirations to operate more long distance and local services on the route, and improved infrastructure would be required to do this.

Initial designs on the project were put forward in 2017, and last year plans for a new footbridge were approved. It is hoped that the new platform will be finished early next year.

While spaces will close to the public to allow for the works to be carried out, there are no plans to extend the car park.
