Parking problems: Car crashes into Islington house close to Boris Johnson’s former family home

It is what you might call a tight parking spot — but not one recommended by the Highway Code.

Alarmed Islington residents woke up to find this car wedged down the steps to a basement flat yards from Boris Johnson’s former family home.

The dark blue Vauxhall Astra kept just its back wheels on the pavement after the driver took “off-road parking” to new levels.

Journalist Rosie Millard, who took this picture, said: “The lady who lived there told me she heard a huge bang at 2am and came out and was absolutely shocked to see the car where it was.”

The vehicle was removed by police and there were remarkably no reports of any injuries.

It comes as a new front in the fight against inconsiderate supercar drivers who rev their noisy engines has been launched with fresh moves sought to hit them with much bigger fines.

Kensington and Chelsea council has received a flood of complaints from fed-up residents reporting loud Lamborghinis, McLarens and motorbikes tearing around the streets at night.

It began targeting drivers who cause “excessive noise” with £100 fixed penalty notices late last year and has since handed out hundreds of fines.

But officials want to at least quadruple the penalty in a bid to deter more motorists from causing misery.

The move, dubbed “super fines for supercars”, would also help the borough pay for special acoustic cameras which are being rolled out later this month following a successful pilot.
