Parking in Glasgow- the little known NCP car park rule you need to be aware of

The topic of parking in Glasgow is always a contentious one.

From free spaces on Sunday being scrapped to recent proposals to introduce a blanket ban on parking on pavements, it's a touchy subject no matter where in the Dear Green Place you live.

Like any major city, Glasgow’s spaces are few and far in between, and, with Christmas on the horizon, those readily available are likely to cost you dearly.

We're always on the a cheap and easily manoeuvred spot but we had no idea about this one NCP rule that could save you a lot of money - and bother.

It came to light after a driver reported that he was forced to buy a second ticket by a parking attendant - despite already having paid for a ticket to park there for a full day, as reported by LincolnshireLive .

He had paid £11.10 to park in a NCP all day but halfway through the day he took his car out. On his return he was told he would have to purchase a new ticket.

The frustrated driver said: "He said you need to get another ticket because you've left.

"I paid £11.10 to park there all day and then had to pay another £8 for four hours.

"My company pays for it so it doesn't affect me personally, but I wasn't impressed."

Despite the advice from the parking attendant, NCP say the motorist's original ticket was valid and the attendant should not have told him to buy another one.

A spokesperson for NCP said: "We are sorry to hear if a customer was told this, this is not correct.

"From an enforcement perspective, if someone has paid for a full day they can enter and exit freely, as many times as they wish within the period of time which they paid for parking, providing they are in the same vehicle."

So there you have it! You can leave and come back as many times as you like with a day ticket, just as the parking Gods intended.

There's NCP locations throughout the city, including car parks on Kings Street, Mitchell Street and Ingram Street. To see all the spots near the city centre, check out the map above.
