Parking fees waived this Christmas in Bridgend County Borough

Bridgend Council has decided to make parking free at council-owned premises in a bid to support local traders.

The council hopes shoppers, visitors and traders will benefit from the initiative, which aims to boost the local economy.

Parking will be free from Saturday, December 5, after 10am at the following council-run car parks:

  • Rhiw and Cheapside multi-storeys, Bridgend
  • The car park behind Wilkinsons, at Tremains Road, Bridgend
  • Tondu Road, Bridgend
  • John Street, Porthcawl
  • Hillsboro Place, Porthcawl

Parking will be free until Thursday, December 31, in addition to the free facilities already available in Maesteg and Pencoed.

Cabinet member for communities, Councillor Richard Young, said the impact of the pandemic "continues to make itself felt and the council wants to do all that it can to support local businesses and shoppers".

He added: “We are committed towards helping businesses make it through these difficult times.

“Bridgend, Porthcawl, Maesteg and Pencoed all offer a diverse range of shops, attractions and places to eat or drink, so I hope that visitors and shoppers will buy locally, and come and see for themselves what the county borough can offer.”
