Parking at Southmead Hospital reduced as demolition work gets underway

Parking spaces at Southmead Hospital will be reduced as the demolition of Monks Park House got underway yesterday.

Half of the spaces outside the building will be out of action with work due to be completed by the end of the year.

The three-storey, large Victorian building has been unused for many years and several feasibility studies have concluded that the building cannot be adapted to provide suitable facilities for the current needs of Southmead Hospital.

No hospital services will be affected but patients and visitors are being urged to seek alternative parking spaces including Brunel multi-storey car park, which has more than 400 spaces for patients and visitors to use.

The work is set to take place Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm and work has already begun to ensure the disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.

The building has had various uses over the years as a hospital but plans are now being developed on how best to improve the site.

And whilst plans for the future of Monks Park are ongoing, the trust says it "will engage with local residents on how to develop the site moving forward."
