Park Street bar Elbow Room has closed permanently after 15 years

A bar in Bristol city centre which operated for around 15 years has gone on the market after closing down.

Elbow Room was a popular late-night spot for students and locals, home to two pool tables as well as areas to have a dance and a relaxed drink across two floors.

A refurbishment in August 2019 marked a 'new era' for the Park Street venue, but just seven months later it was forced to close when the first coronavirus lockdown began.

Like all late-night venues across the country, the pandemic has dealt a huge blow to Elbow Room, and it is understood this is the reason for its closure.

The sign of the bar has been taken down and the building has been stripped, with leisure property specialists Fleurets now on the lookout for a new operator to take on the £50,000 lease.

Fleurets' advert, which can be seen here, states: "An attractive stone built mid terrace property arranged over ground, first and second floors.

"The ground floor benefits from a retractable glazed frontage. The property is arranged to provide trading areas over ground and first floors and staff/office accommodation on the second floor.

"There are external terraces at first and second floor level. The upper floors can be independently accessed from Park Street.

"Given the proximity to the university and high footfall location, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a late night venue with 4am premises licence."

The advert goes on to say there is the 'added benefit of a small commercial kitchen' which could offer the opportunity to introduce food.

At the time of the refurbishment in 2019, former owner Ziggi Watkins told Bristol Live: "With a lick and a spray of paint from a few local artists, we have managed to catch up with the times in no time at all.

"We are entering a new era as things have really picked up over the last couple of months and this revamp will only add to that."

Bristol Live has contacted Elbow Room for comment and is awaiting a response.
