Park Royal fire: More than 100 firefighters and 20 fire pumps rush to blaze at bakery

As many as 125 firefighters and 20 fire pumps are battling a massive blaze at an industrial bakery in west London that broke out early this morning.

Firefighters were called out shortly after 3am to the industrial bakery on Minerva Road, in Royal Park, where most of the building was alight.

People are being told to avoid the area with Minerva Road closed and London Fire Brigade are warning that it may lead to traffic congestion.

London Fire Brigade tweeted: "Crews are expected to remain at the scene of fire at a bakery in #ParkRoyal throughout the morning. The blaze is producing some smoke in the area - local residents should keep their windows and doors closed."

Station Commander Paul Morgan, who is at the scene, said the fire fighters are trying to stop the blaze at the one-storey building and also prevent more damage.

He said: "Firefighters were faced with a fully-developed fire on arrival. One person left the building before the Brigade arrived.

"Crews are working incredibly hard to contain the fire to the single-storey building and prevent further damage. The blaze is continuing to produce some smoke and we're asking residents in the local area to keep their windows and doors closed.

"One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders is being used as a water tower to get water on to the building externally. Firefighters are also using one of our drones to provide an aerial view and support observational awareness.
