Park Road security alert ongoing after 'suspicious object' found

Homes are being evacuated in South Belfast after a suspicious object was found.

Police have released few details, however it is understood the object was discovered in the area around Ormeau Golf Club.

The club borders Ormeau Park and covers extensive ground.

Park road, which has homes on one side and the club, park and Council recycling centre on the other, has been sealed off.

One line of enquiry is that the object found has been there for some time, however details on its origin are not expected to become clear for some time yet.

In a statement, the PSNI said they are “currently in attendance at a security alert”.

A spokesman added: “Park Road and Cross Parade in Belfast are both closed following a report of a suspicious object this morning (Friday, April 23).

“A number of homes in the area are currently being evacuated and ammunition technical officers are in attendance. There are no further details at present.”
