Park Inn resident woken up by 'loud scream' in horror scenes at West George Street hotel

A resident staying at the Park Inn has told how he was woken up by a "loud scream" this afternoon.

Police and paramedics are at the scene on West George Street this afternoon where several people, including one police officer, have been injured in a major incident at the hotel in the city centre.

Police Scotland have confirmed a male suspect was shot dead by officers.

A resident staying with his mum on the third floor of the hotel, which is being used for temporary accommodation, told of the moment he found two staff members injured in the lobby of the building.

He tells Glasgow Live : "We were sleeping and I woke up to a loud scream. There was a woman screaming and a man shouting for help.

"I couldn't see from my window what was going on but I could see few people outside the building looking towards the hotel. I was worried and went down. The lift was covered in blood so I took the stairs."

He saw a staff member had been injured in the reception and went to call for help, finding two police officers helping another victim “fighting for his life” at the entrance.

He added: "I called my mum and told her to stay calm. She was panicking. I managed to get out after a few minutes, there were still people in the building looking around.”

An office worker who was in a nearby building tells how he and a colleague heard an “enormous wail” from nearby at around 12.30pm.

He added: “Clearly someone had been hurt or was shouting at somebody. It went on for a bit and then it went quiet. After a couple minutes we heard the sirens coming.

“We work two or three offices down. I’ve been parking opposite the hotel over the past couple of weeks.

“We were just about to go out for lunch, we could see there was a commotion at the Park Inn and we turned the other way. We would have been walking down the part at that time if we hadn’t heard it.

“I feel for the poor residents coming out, with the police there. It must have been petrifying.”
