Park gets much-needed makeover

VOLUNTEERS got stuck in to clean up a Glossop town centre park.

The clean-up of Harehills also helped promote the recently formed Harehills Community Group and aimed to encourage folk to get involved with the group.

Among the dozen or so grafters were Tory Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Council’s executive member for community and social development and Labour Howard Town Councillor Roger Wilkinson.

They ditched political differences for the duration of the three-hour clean-up to join forces and cut back trees, which were overhanging the river and trimmed back the grassy bank along the footpath from the High Street West entrance to the park.

"People were also cutting back brambles and clearing muck from the footpath. It looks a lot better now it’s done," said Councillor Bingham.

Staff from Groundwork Derbyshire and Derby and High Peak Council also took part in the spruce-up on Saturday morning.
