Park cyclists turn One Foot in the Grave's Richard Wilson into Victor Meldrew

One Foot In The Grave star Richard Wilson admits he turns into Victor Meldrew to berate cyclists in his local park.

The 85-year-old actor played grumpy retiree Victor, famous for his catchphrase “I don’t believe it”, for 11 years until 2000.

He has confessed he feels like his character when he sees bikes riding where they should not. And sometimes the cyclists blast back.

He said: “I get very angry in Regent’s Park, where I live nearby.

“It’s full of cyclists who are not supposed to cycle in the park. I did say one day to a young chap, ‘You’re not supposed to cycle in the park’ and he said, ‘Shut up, you old ****!’ I get very angry.

“I can’t hear them coming and I get worried. I do get very Victor-ish with them.”

Some 21 years since the sitcom ended, Richard still has “I don’t believe it” bellowed at him often.

He told One Foot In The Podcast: “If people say it now I just wave at them and smile. I wear baseball caps now because that tends to hide me a bit.”
