Paris waiter shot dead by angry customer for being 'too slow with sandwich'

A waiter at a pizzeria in Paris has allegedly been shot dead by an enraged customer who reportedly complained about his slow service.

The customer was not happy that his sandwich wasn't prepared quickly enough, according to Le Parisien .

The waiter's colleague alerted the police after he was shot in the shoulder.

Paramedics arrived and tried to revive the 28-year-old but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A young man told the media: "There were a lot of firefighters running in all directions.

"I thought it was an old person who was uncomfortable!"

The incident took place at a small pizzeria in the Rue de la Piazza, in the eastern Noisy-le-Grand suburb, 15km away from Paris's city centre, on Friday evening.

The gunman fled the scene and is still at large.

The waiter's colleague told the police that the customer had lost his temper because of the time taken to prepare his meal.

One 29-year-old woman told French media: "It is sad. It's a quiet restaurant, without any problems.

"It just opened a few months ago."

Another one asked: "He was killed for a sandwich?"

Some others said there had been an upsurge of crime in the area, in particularly drug-dealing and public drunkenness.

Police have opened a murder investigation.
