Paris takes a 'oui' leaf out Glasgow's book with GoMA-inspired cone statue

Glasgow's fondness for cutting down historical figures to size a little via the placement of a traffic cone on the nappers of their statues is now known the world over.

With obviously the cone which our dear Duke Of Wellington statue outside the GoMA in Royal Exchange Square sports being the true testament to the city's humour - and one that even graffiti artist Banksy has referenced and tried to make a fast buck off.

And now it seems the good folk of Paris have channelled our humorous spirit - with a traffic cone having appeared overnight on the head of the statue of philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau in the French capital.

Located in the Place du Panthéon in the Latin Quarter, photos of the statue sporting its new headgear have appeared on social media -  alongside comments such as "Rousseau Revisited", "indifference for the Republic" and "inevitably it had to happen".

Fair game it seems to whoever decided that the man whose belief in the natural goodness of humanity fed the excesses of the French Revolution needed to be brought down a peg.

That being said, seeing the Parisians be inspired by our city can only be looked upon as a good thing, unlike perhaps those in that city down the M8 which has the big castle.

One exemplified a few years back when Edinburgh folk started their own cone trend only to be met with cries of "Get your own patter" from Glaswegians who got wise to it.

And while we issue a blanket 'bonjour' to our French friends,  you know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
