Paris Saint-Germain suffer injury blow ahead of Manchester United Champions League fixture

Paris Saint-Germain have been dealt an injury blow ahead of their opening Champions League fixture against Manchester United next week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side begin their European campaign next Tuesday night when they make the trip to France to take on the top seeds in Group H.

United know they face a huge task in trying to defeat the French champions away from home but their hopes of a positive result might be boosted after the latest injury news.

PSG could be without key defensive figure Marquinhos for the match after the 26-year-old suffered a thigh injury while away on international duty earlier this week.

Marquinhos lasted just 11 minutes of Brazil's 4-2 qualification win over Peru on Tuesday night before being replaced by fellow defender Rodrigo Caio.

The news comes as the latest blow to manager Thomas Tuchel who is already without first-choice left-back Juan Bernat following a knee injury.

PSG will be crossing their fingers for no more fresh injury concerns ahead of next week's match when they travel to take on Nimes in Ligue 1 on Friday night.

The French champions could be lining up against former forward Edinson Cavani in their Champions League opener with the Uruguayan forward set to make his debut for United in the match.

Cavani signed for United as a free agent on transfer deadline day last week but misses the weekend trip to Newcastle as he continues his self-isolation period.
