Paris Saint-Germain respond to rumours Mauricio Pochettino is returning to Tottenham

PSG have released an interview with Mauricio Pochettino in which the manager speaks of his "future plans" at the club as he's linked with a Tottenham return.

The Argentine was axed by the north Londoners in November 2019 and spent over a year away from the game before returning.

He took charge in Paris at the turn of the year and was handed an 18 month contract.

Pochettino was unable to retain the Ligue 1 title but did win two domestic cups and reach the last four of the Champions League.

However reports claim the 49-year-old is in talks over a shock return to Tottenham as Daniel Levy seeks a new permanent manager.

The Parisians though have looked back on their season with Pochettino and the tactician has talked of his ambitions to achieve "great things" going forward.

He told PSGTV : "I'm happy with the way the players adapted to the changes. There are a lot of things that couldn't be changed or couldn't be developed because of lack of time.

"But I think that with this way of working, and with the desire to be able to develop other kinds of ideas on the pitch, it will be possible to do great things in the future.

"Of course I'm proud of the team's effort, because only we know what state the team was in and what we were capable of.

"I'm proud of all the people involved, not just the players, but all the staff at the club, everybody, because I think the effort was incredible, everything we did to stay alive until the last days in all the competitions.

"Winning the Trophée des Champions, winning the Coupe de France, reaching the semi-final of the Champions League, without being in your best form, and fighting until the last game with the possibility of winning the championship, and given the conditions in which we arrived in January, we should be proud of everything, of everyone who participated in this journey."

A European managerial merry-go-round could yet be to Tottenham's advantage as they look to re-hire Pochettino.

Zinedine Zidane has left his post at Real Madrid and is seen as a potential candidate for the PSG job were the Argentine to move on.

Antonio Conte is also available having left Inter Milan this week after winning Serie A.

Pochettino's No 2 Jesus Perez recently told the Evening Standard that they retain a good relationship with Levy and would one day return.

He said: “Mauricio and Daniel still text each other and they have a very good relationship. We don’t have any bad feelings with Daniel. The other way around. It was a professional decision.

“At some point, we had to split but we will be back at Spurs for sure.”
