Paris Saint-Germain fans explain why Thiago Silva is the missing piece of the Chelsea jigsaw

Paris Saint-Germain supporters have delivered their verdict on Thiago Silva being linked with a move to Chelsea this summer.

The defender has reportedly been offered to the west London side, with his contract at PSG expiring at the end of the season.

The veteran Brazilian centre-back is set to depart the French champions after the club's Champions League final on Sunday, and according to The Telegraph, Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign the defender on a free transfer.

Fiorentina and former side AC Milan have also been linked with a move for the 35-year-old, but a move to the Premier League could present an intriguing option for the player.

The ultimate lowdown on Declan Rice

Chelsea are thought to be keen on a new central defender in the summer transfer window, with boss Frank Lampard aware of the need to strengthen at the back after high profile defeats in recent months.

The Blues have been linked with West Ham's Declan Rice and Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez, but Silva could present a far cheaper option, and add crucial experience to Frank Lampard's squad.

And according to PSG fans, Chelsea would be foolish not to complete a deal for Silva.

Writing on Reddit, a Chelsea supporter asked his PSG counterparts whether Silva would be a good addition for the Blues.

The general consensus from fans of the Ligue 1 side was that the defender would indeed be a smart signing.

One wrote: "He's plenty fast, and has world class positioning and anticipation. The man learned from Nesta himself. I honestly think he could do another year for us and not be out of his depth.

"It's not his fault that Marquinhos and Kimpembe are both starter quality. Personally, I think he's a top 10-15 defender for any possession-focused team that plays out the back."

Another posted: "I think he would be a great addition to your team for at least one season. He has the leadership and experience to fix your defence."

A third said: "He is still terrific and has a few more years at real top level. It’s just hard to justify his salary for his age when we’ve got Kimpembe and Marquinhos."

Silva captained PSG to the club's first ever Champions League final, after the Ligue 1 side beat RB Leipzig 3-0 in the semi-final on Tuesday.

“It was not easy at all, there were difficult moments, but today, we deserved to be in the final,"  Silva told RMC.

"I am very happy with my team and how we behaved today. We tried not to concede a goal right until the end, because up top, we know that we are very strong and can always score.”

When pushed on his future, Silva admitted he wanted to continue his career in Europe.

"I don’t want to talk about that because it is not going to help us, but I want us to celebrate all together the last match with a title.

I have already said a lot of times before I wanted to do, that I want to finish (my career) here in Europe.

"A decision was taken, now things are calm in my head.

"It will be in another club, but my heart will stay here [at PSG]."
