Paris Paralympics: India shuttlers Mandeep Kaur, Palak Kohli eliminated

NEW DELHI: Mandeep Kaur and Palak Kohli, two Indian shuttlers, were ousted from the Paris Paralympics on Sunday. Their separate losses in the women's singles quarterfinals at La Chapelle Arena in Paris were starkly different.

Mandeep, who was competing in the SL3 division, lost the match 8-21 9-21 in 23 minutes, barely giving Nigeria's third-seeded player Bolaji Mariam Eniola any trouble, as per PTI.

Mandeep had previously fallen short against Eniola in the group stage, therefore this was her second straight loss.

Players competing on a half-width court who have a severe lower limb handicap are placed in the SL3 division.

Bronze medallist Palak in the SL4 division lost in a fight to Indonesia's Khalimatus Sadiyah in a time of 28 minutes, 19-21 15-21.

Athletes participating standing with less severe disability than in SL3 are placed in SL4 class.

Manisha Ramdass will participate in the SU5 women's singles quarterfinal later in the day, and Nithya Sivan Sumathy will fight in the SH6 women's singles last-eight stage.

Manisha will compete against Mamiko Toyoda of Japan, while Nithya will take against Oliwia Szmigiel of Poland.

There will be an all-Indian match in the men's singles semifinal in the SL4 category between Suhas Yathiraj and Sukant Kadam.

Nitesh Kumar will compete against Daisuke Fujihara of Japan in the SL3 men's singles semifinal.
