Paris Hilton shares truth behind 'Stop Being Poor' myth - and says it was all fake

Paris Hilton has revealed the truth behind a viral picture of her wearing a top that said 'STOP BEING POOR'.

Cast your mind back to 2005, Paris was celebrating the launch of her sister Nicky's clothing line in Las Vegas.

The 40-year-old socialite was spotted with her hands in the air wearing a white vest top with a bold statement on it which quickly spread online.

Now 16 years later, Paris has set the record straight.

In a TikTok video, which has since racked up more than 6.6 million views, Paris talks honestly about what the top really said.

The post was captioned: "Debunking the #STOPBEINGPOOR myth. Don’t believe everything you read #Iconic."

The top was photoshopped (@parishilton/TikTok)

"So there's this photo online of me, I'm sure you've seen it," she says, as she shows off the top that we know very well.

But then she revealed: "I never wore that shirt."

Paris continues. "This was completely Photoshopped, everyone thinks it's real but that's not the truth."

She then went on to reveal what was really printed on the top.

"This is what it really said: 'Stop being desperate'. Don't believe everything you read," Paris said.

Since being posted, the video has received more than 1.6 million likes and thousands of comments from viewers.

One person said: "Oh my God I am so devastated."

Another wrote: "As a poor person I kinda dig the photoshopped one tbh."

"We didn't take it personally tbh. I actually liked the poor one tho lol," agreed a third.
