May 20--Legal woes continue to plague Conrad Hilton, the younger brother of hotel heiress Paris Hilton.
This time, Conrad Hilton turned himself in to authorities in Riverside County after allegedly leading an officer on a high-speed pursuit before crashing last year in Cathedral City.
Hilton, 21, was booked Saturday into the Riverside Police Department jail on a charge of felony reckless evading a peace officer and was released almost immediately on $100,000 bail. According to Riverside County Sheriff's Department booking records, he is expected to return to court on July 14.
The latest legal trouble for Hilton comes more than two months after he pleaded guilty in federal court to attacking several flight attendants aboard a British Airways flight from London to Los Angeles last July. He was ordered to remain inside his home between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. His sentencing is set for July 10.
Following that guilty plea, an arrest warrant was issued in Riverside County for Hilton in connection with the chase and crash.
A California Department of Fish and Wildlife officer spotted Hilton driving about 90 mph about midnight on Aug. 23, 2014, in a black BMW in Cathedral City, according to a Riverside County Superior Court arrest warrant.
Hilton was weaving in and out of lanes and nearly struck two other vehicles, the warrant said. The officer tried to stop Hilton, but he continued driving.
Hilton passed several vehicles before the following officer lost sight of him. The officer said he believed Hilton was driving more than 100 mph at one point. He said he stopped following Hilton because they were approaching a highway with heavy traffic.
About 30 minutes later, Hilton allegedly struck the rear of a Volkswagen Beetle and then crashed into a semi-tractor trailer on the 10 Freeway near Date Palm Drive.
Firefighters used extrication tools to rescue Hilton, who was trapped inside the BMW.
Hilton suffered major injuries and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Hospital. He was later released.
Conrad Hughes Hilton is the great-grandson of hotel magnate Conrad Hilton.
