Paris Hilton decides 2008 will be all about making things easier for her

As the sun of 2008 now lodges itself that little bit higher and firmer in our collective universe, it's human nature for us all to look up and say, "Hey! Maybe I should take this randomly chosen touchstone of a new year and consider how I can do things better - no, not for the world around me, but for me."

Well, LiS is deeply relieved that Paris Hilton seems to have been taking this approach because, God knows, that girl has suffered this year: jail (sort of), disinherited (sort of), wearing a matching outfit with Britney Spears - my God, how much can a girl take?

So what has Paris done to give 2008 that much-needed "me-time" spin? Some might have thought it would be to open her eyelids a little beyond the "oxycontin mong" level (maybe then she'd be able to see more clearly and therefore more quickly should she happen to step out of the house dressed like Spears again), but no. Instead, it's about the men she chooses to grace with her, um, company (I haven't seen the DVD but I wouldn't be surprised if that thing was branded with a PLC tattoo.)

So after spending that awkward Christmas and New Year interim period with Kevin Federline, father of Britney's children, she was photographed celebrating New Year with the illustrious Larry Birkhead, father of Anna Nicole Smith's genetically blessed child.

Now, some might come over all quizzical about Paris' thinking here but it makes perfect sense, really. It's like the old Chris Rock joke - where's the best place to pick up women? At an abortion rally, 'cause you know they put out. Well, we suspect Paris' mind is working along similar tasteful lines. After all, there ain't nothing like a man who sues his strung out or dead millionaire wife for custody to show that he (a) puts out (b) is fertile and (c) would always put the children's needs first, don't you think?
