Paris Hilton breaks down in tears as she confides in family over traumatic childhood secret

Paris Hilton breaks down in tears as she opens up to her family for the very first time over a trauma she suffered during her childhood in an upcoming documentary.

The 39-year-old, who rose to stardom in reality series Simple Life in 2003, speaks about a devastating experience she kept secret from everyone around her - including sister Nicky.

A new trailer for her YouTube documentary This Is Paris begins showing her strolling along with her chihuahua tucked under her arm before she is stopped and told to do it again.

"What do you mean, am I not on a runway?" Paris asks before turning away and a montage of clips flash up on screen, showing her surrounded by flashing cameras on various red carpets.

"I feel like the whole world thinks they know me," she is heard saying off-screen before it cuts to her apologising as she drives her car.

She tells the camera person: "Sorry, I'm so used to playing a character it's hard for me to be normal."

Paris adds off-screen: "No one knows who I am.

"I'm always putting this facade, always happy in a perfect life."

Her sister Nicky is then seen facing her and asks: "Are you happy?"

Paris nods hesitantly but answers: "Sometimes."

Nicky is heard saying off-screen: "They say trauma, the mind may forget but the body never forgets. It's trapped and it can come out whenever."

A clip plays of Paris' DJing stint in Belgium, which is interspersed with what appears to be a row of Paris and a man backstage.

In a voiceover, Paris sounds pained as she yells: "Stop!"

Next, Paris is curled up on the sofa as she is heard saying: "I don't even know who I am sometimes. It didn't used to be that way. Something happened in my childhood that I've never talked about to anyone."

Paris looks tearful as Nicky sits next to her and recalls: "I just heard screaming. Bloody murder."

The next clip shows Paris telling her parents: "I couldn't tell you guys about it because every time I tried, I'd get punished by them. I still have nightmares about it. The only thing that saved my sanity is thinking about who I wanted to become when I got out of there."

Her mother puts her head in her hands before old clips of Paris time in school are seen on screen.

Paris then admits as she is seen walking into a crowd of people: "I've just created this brand, this persona, this character. I've been stuck with her ever since."

Off-camera, someone asks her: "Is that enough."

"No," Paris replies with tears in her eyes.
