Paris brings in alcohol ban as record 40C heatwave intensifies

  • Paris has implemented a ban on public alcohol consumption as temperatures reached 36C, following a record 40.9C earlier in the week, in an effort to reduce heat-related deaths.
  • The heatwave is causing significant strain across Europe, leading to hundreds of deaths, including drownings in France and worker fatalities in Italy, and overwhelming hospital facilities.
