Parents warned over potential Child Benefit date change as they wait for double payment

Parents eagerly awaiting the arrival of their November child benefit payment are being told it could be made early due to Halloween, RSVP reports.

Child Benefit is usually paid on the first Tuesday of the month but will change to the Friday before the Halloween weekend so parents don't miss out as they await for a further double payment in November.

The regular payment is officially due on Tuesday, November 1, but because of the bank holiday Monday, parents have been known to get the payment a few days early. The double payment will be paid later next month.

Bank holidays often see people receiving the payment earlier than expected. Some parents could receive the payment as early as Friday, October 29 or Saturday, October 30.

In November, a one-off double child benefit payment worth €140 per child will be made. This will be paid on top of the normal monthly child benefit payment, meaning parents will receive €280 per child.

This was announced last week as part of Budget 2023 and aims to ease the burden on families as the cost of living continues to rise.

There were a number of other social welfare measures announced, such as a double Halloween payment and once-off lump sums for a number of welfare payments.

The €140 monthly allowance is not subject to taxation and is a universal payment not affected by a person's income level.

Parents or guardians with children under the age of 16 or between the ages of 16 and 17 who are in full-time education or full-time training or have a disability and cannot support themselves qualify.
