Parents warned after laughing gas canisters found at Scottish primary school

Laughing gas canisters have been discovered at a Scottish primary school.

An investigation has now been launched to understand where the canisters came from, after they were found in the grounds of Kelty Primary in Fife.

According to local police, around 30 empty canisters were recovered, with anyone with information urged to come forward.

Laughing gas, also known as Nitrous Oxide, is a dangerous chemical which is often found at parties or 'party towns' abroad.

Inhaled through a balloon, the gas can have serious side effects such as fainting or even death, reports the Daily Record.

In the hope of preventing any further use of the drug, police in Cowdenbeath issued an urgent warning on social media.

The force tweeted: "The Community Team have been made aware of the discovery of Nitrous Oxide Cannisters after 30 were found in the grounds of Kelty Primary School."

This gas can have serious consequences when inhaled."

Local councillor Darren Watt said: "I seriously urge parents/carers to talk with their children regarding this potentially lethal drug.

'It may seem like harmless, legal fun but the risks are all too real."
