Parents warned after hundreds of illegal vapes found for sale across Rochdale

A warning has been issued to parents after illegal vapes were found being sold across Rochdale.

Rochdale Borough Council says it has become aware of disposable vapes with a nicotine content of 5 per cent being sold throughout the borough.

Nicotine inhaling products containing more than two per cent are illegal to sell as they do not comply with UK safety requirements.

The Trading Standards team say these vapes can be attractive to children due to their colours and flavours.

So far, hundreds of the items have been removed from stores across the borough.

In a statement, the authority said: “Our Trading Standards team have become aware of disposable vapes labelled with a nicotine content of 5% being sold throughout the borough.

“Any nicotine inhaling product containing more than 2% nicotine is illegal to sell as it does not comply with UK safety requirements. Unfortunately, these vapes are particularly attractive to children due to their colours and flavours.

“We have removed hundreds of these items from stores but we would welcome any further information about premises which may be selling them.

“Any information can be sent in confidence to trading.standards@rochdale.gov.uk .

“You can also use the email address to report the underage sale of vapes, whatever the strength.”
