Parents warned after baby food recalled over fears it contains plastic

Parents are being warned after news a popular brand of baby food is recalling products over fears it may contain plastic.

Nutricia is recalling Aptamil Multigrain Banana and Berry Cereal 7+ months (200g, with best before date 07.07.21) because it may contain small pieces of blue plastic.

No other batches of this product or any other Aptamil products are affected.

Parents and carers have been warned not to feed this particular product to their babies.

Nutricia is recalling the product due to safety concerns and point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling it.

These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product.

If you have bought the product, do not feed it to your baby and instead, return it to the store from where it was bought, with or without a receipt, for a full refund.

An Aptamil spokesperson told the ECHO: "We are recalling these products as a precaution because some have been found to contain small pieces of the blue plastic material used to make the packaging.

"We are sorry that this has happened. Nothing is more important to us than the quality and safety of our products.

"We would like to reassure parents that this isolated incident is linked to an equipment fault at our factory at the time this specific batch was made. We regret that this product does not meet our usual standards; we have fixed the fault and we have taken action to reinforce our quality procedures.

"The blue plastic is clearly visible in contrast to the cereal. If you have fed your baby from one of the packs without noticing any pieces, it is very likely that your pack was not affected."
