Parents slapped with Covid fines after groups of teenagers repeatedly break rules in County Durham

A number of fines have been handed out to parents by police after their children repeatedly broke coronavirus rules in County Durham.

Officers said a large group of teenagers aged between 13 and 15-years-old were spotted in Ferryhill Market Place breaking the current Covid-19 restrictions.

As a result, two fixed penalty notices were handed out to parents whose children continue to breach restrictions while officers warned a further four parents.

The force said they were working to tackle local issues in the area and encouraged anyone to get in touch if they're aware of an incident.

A spokesperson for Spennymoor and Ferryhill Police said: "Further fines issued to Ferryhill parents following behaviour of children in breach of Covid restrictions.

"A group of several youths between 13 and 15-year old were found to be in the area of Ferryhill Market Place in a large group contravening the current restrictions.

"Police have since handed out two fixed penalty notices to parents whose children have been identified to continue to breach the restrictions.

"A further four parents have been warned and, in some cases, safeguarding referrals have been made.

"Ferryhill Neighbourhood Policing Team are working very closely with housing providers, Durham County Council’s ASB team and the Neighbourhood Wardens to tackle the issues.

"If you are aware of an ongoing incident, please report this via 101 or use the live chat facility on our website."
