Parents slammed over 'entitled' note reserving park benches for kid's party

Parents have faced backlash online after using an 'entitled' note to reserve three picnic benches in a public park for their four-year-old's birthday party. The 'passive aggressive' note was found attached to the seating area on Saturday, warning others not to 'mess up' the celebration by taking up any of the benches.

However, after making their claim on the area, they never showed up to use the space until six hours later. While some hit out at their 'rude and mannerless' approach, others felt they had done nothing wrong and were just trying to 'make sure their kid had a good day'.

As reported by the Mirror, the note read: "Reserved for a birthday party. Please respect the space we've set aside and do not use our tables.

"This is for a four-year-old's party, don't be the one to mess it up, thank-you."

Their plea worked as nobody spoiled the party but a photo from the undisclosed location found its way onto Reddit. A park-goer uploaded a snap of the empty tables and it provoked plenty of debate.

The post read: "Busy public park on a hot Saturday/Labor Day weekend. Seems super entitled. Park has been open for four hours and no sign of them. All the other tables are full."

If that wasn't enough, they said the bash turned 'very rowdy' when they eventually turned up as the adults took over with loud portable speaker annoying dog walkers. "The rangers had to come and have a very long chat with them, after that they settled down," they added.

Most people did not side with the parents with over four thousand comments. One replied: "The fact that the note was written aggressively while also depending on other people’s decency to allow them to bend common courtesy that I found annoying. Its rude and mannerless."

Another said: "Bin the note. They can't prove it wasn't there when you sat down."

A third put: "'If you want to hold the table you need to station someone there to wait all day, otherwise it's first come first served." One woman added: "I really want to be on their side because I know even when you reserve tables at the park, sometimes people refuse to move, but without a time on the note, the note is just useless."

But there were some people sticking up for them. "They're just trying to make sure their kid had a good day," someone wrote.
