Parents slam neighbour for complaining about their son 'screaming' at video games

A mum has received an angry backlash from her neighbours after her teenage son plays video games at 9pm. The woman took to Mumsnet to explain that her son likes to play using headsets so he can communicate with friends.

In the online post, she claimed that the video games can be loud but they are always turned off around 9pm, which she felt was a respectable time for a 13-year-old. She explained: "His room isn’t joined to another as semi but the neighbour has complained that for the last 3 weeks ( summer holidays… ) she has had to listen to him screaming or crying when he loses a game or is killed and is annoyed."

Through the summer months, the windows of the teenager's bedroom have been slightly ajar, meaning the neighbour who sits in her garden is able to hear him getting upset.

The mum made it clear that she tells her son to close his window if he begins to get too loud, but this has even annoyed the neighbour.

"She even complained about how loud he closes the window ( as I do tell him to close it if I can hear he’s getting very into a game and think the neighbours might be sitting in the garden )," she stated in the post.

"She implied he has ADHD or another form of very hyperactive behaviour because of how loud and engrossed he gets - I work with teenagers and feel they can all be very much like this when it comes to these games."

The mum ended by saying that her husband thinks the neighbour is out of line and that the teenager should be able to continue playing past 9pm.

However, the mother was torn and felt embarrassed and conflicted by what had happened.

In response, one person commented by asking: "Is he very loud, and is it every night? And he shouts and cries? I’d be irritated too."

However, another commenter stated: "Of course that's unreasonable. If you live in a semi you have to accept that you'll hear some noise from your neighbours but screaming and shouting on a routine basis is unacceptable and inconsiderate."
