The parents of three children who died in an east London house fire have paid tribute to them, saying they were “loved beyond words and missed beyond measure”.

The children who died after the blaze in East Ham on 13 July were named by police on Friday as 13-year-old Nakash Malik, 11-year-old Aayat Malik and seven-year-old Muhammad Hanan Malik.

Their parents, Khurram Malik and Naumana Gul Khan, said: “Your lives were a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. May you rest in peace in God’s heaven.”

The fire damaged the ground floor and half of the first floor of the terrace house on Napier Road.

The Metropolitan police said it was continuing to investigate the cause of the fire, alongside the London fire brigade, and that at this stage there was no evidence to indicate suspicious circumstances.

One of the children died at the scene of the fire, while the other two died in hospital.

Two adults and another child in the property, all believed to be from the same family, were admitted to hospital.

One neighbour said he had thrown bricks to try to break the windows to help the family to escape. Shah, 37, said: “Someone threw the big brick, the full brick, at the window but couldn’t break it. And the half-brick, I hold in my hand, I threw it … to help the family because the mum – she was by the window.

“The dad, he came through the roof. After five, 10 minutes, we saw on the corner, the children came. We saw the police running up and giving them CPR.”
