Parents pay tribute to George, two, killed in Heysham explosion

A two-year-old boy killed in a gas explosion which destroyed two homes and left four other people injured has been named as George Arthur Hinds.

Two people remain in hospital with injuries described as critical.

The explosion this morning ripped through several homes in Heysham, Lancashire.

Police were called to Mallowdale Avenue at about 2.40am today and declared a major emergency.

Two had collapsed with serious damage to a third property - while toddler George had sadly died in the explosion.

He was two months away from his third birthday, reports LancsLive.

George’s parents Vicky Studholme and Stephen Hinds were also injured.

In a tribute they said: “We are devastated at the loss of our beautiful George.

"He was so precious to us. We have no words to describe how we feel and just want time to ourselves to come to terms with what has happened. Our beautiful little angel grew his wings today.”

The emergency services remain at the scene and residents have been evacuated

Gas engineers are working to make the area safe and people are being asked to avoid the area.
