Parents of teen crash victim thank police who gifted them precious final moments with son

The parents of teenage car crash victim Jay Morrison have thanked first responders who gifted them precious final moments with their son.

The 19-year-old, from Barrhead, died following the accident on Nitshill Road, near its junction with Levern Bridge Road at around 11.35pm on Friday, September 17.

Police scrambled to the crash after reports of a red Vauxhall Corsa leaving the road.

The two officers who arrived first at the scene performed CPR on the teenager for 15 minutes while waiting for an ambulance crew to arrive.

He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment - but the youngster died in the early hours of Saturday, September 18.

Jay's devastated dad Kenny said he would be eternally grateful to the officers who performed CPR, as they gave the family precious final moments to say goodbye to their son.

He asked the public to be compassionate towards on-duty police officers who went above and beyond while 'just doing their job'.

He said: "My son Jay Morrison lost his life in car crash on the 18th of September 2021.

"This was a really bad accident at 11.30 at night. It was attended by the police. I have no idea who the officers were who attended and were first on site.

"These two officers who probably get abuse every time they are on duty, they did not know my son or me or any of my family.

"They gave Jay, a stranger to them, CPR for 15 minutes until medical help arrived.

"This selfless act by these officers allowed me, my wife and my family some of whom travelled up from England, the precious time we needed to be with him before he passed.

"I do not have the words to tell them how grateful we are to them for affording us that opportunity."

He added: "I just want people to be aware, the police are there to do their job, but when required, will without hesitation go above and beyond to help people they do not know and make an impact on peoples lives that they or us cannot fathom. Then they go back on duty on do it all over again.

"To the two officers I met and treated me like their own family, you have mine and my families heartfelt gratitude and will always be welcome at our house. We will treat you how you treated us, like one of our own.

"Thank you so much for the gift you gave my family and Jay time to say goodbye."

Tributes have flooded in for Jay, who was a former pupil at St Luke's High School in Barrhead and worked at Taggarts Volvo dealers in Hillington.

His sister Demi Laura Morrison led the tributes: "My beautiful little brother one the hardest things I've ever had to do, was watch you go. I’m so glad you waited for us all and I had the short time with you. I'll never understand how life works.

"You grew into such a gentleman and the best uncle the girls could ask for, along with the best brother.
