The sentencing hearing has commenced for the parents of the teenager responsible for the tragic school shooting in Oxford, Michigan in 2021. James and Jennifer Crumbley are facing potential prison sentences of up to 15 years each after being convicted of manslaughter.
Having been in custody for over two years since their arrest shortly after the incident, the Crumbleys are now awaiting their fate in an Oakland County courtroom. Despite being tried separately, their sentencing is being conducted jointly.
Legal representatives for the parents have advocated for a more lenient sentence of less than five years in prison for each of their clients. The proceedings began with Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald engaging with some of the families of the victims present in the courtroom gallery.
