Parents of cheerleader who buried dead baby in garden describe 'worst nightmare'

The parents of a former cheerleader cleared of murdering her newborn baby have described being in 'purgatory' in their first interview since the acquittal.

Earlier this month, Brooke Skylar Richardson was found not guilty of killing her newborn daughter after giving birth and burying her body in her back garden.

The 20-year-old is now due to appear in a TV show which will see her parents Kim and Scott speak out after the highly publicised trial.

A promotional video of the episode of 48 Hours on CBS, which will air tomorrow, reveals Kim describing the ordeal as her 'worst nightmare'.

She said it was like the family had been living in 'purgatory' adding that their lives had been turned 'upside down'.

The parents say they've been 'stalked' and have had 'no privacy'.

Skylar delivered the infant who she called Annabelle in the toilet of her home in Ohio, USA, on May 7, 2017.

A jury the former teenage cheerleader of murder but convicted her of a lesser 'abuse of a corpse' charge.

The jury, comprised of seven women and five men, reached a verdict in less than five hours, according to WCPO news station .

The defendant broke down in court as the verdict was read out by a jury foreman.

No one around her knew she was pregnant, and she did not reveal to anyone that her child had died, going on to graduate from high school just two weeks later.

Kim and Scott spoke about the attention their daughter's case received and being 'stalked'.

According to the Daily Mail , Kim says in the interview: "Everyone wanted to know what was going on in our backyard and what had happened.

"The sidewalk was lined with people sitting in lawn chairs. We have no privacy, we're followed, stalked."

She said, for her, Facebook turned into 'hate book'.

The parents reiterate they did not know their girl had been pregnant.

They said they were even pleased she'd put on some weight as she'd reportedly been suffering from eating disorders for years.

Skylar confessed that she had buried the baby after a visit to a doctor.

Prosecutors at Warren County Court in Ohio, USA, claim she bashed in the baby's skull after researching 'how to get rid of a baby'.

She was driven to a police station by her father where she admitted to authorities that she “didn’t really want to have” the baby but “never meant to hurt her.”

The cheerleader's lawyer said the baby was pale when she gave birth on her bathroom floor and there was no umbilical cord attached.

The baby was not breathing, they claimed, and she panicked and buried her shortly afterwards.

It is claimed she thought she had months until her due date, but the baby arrived just 11 days after she found out she was expecting in April 2017.
