Parents’ money worries are surging ahead of winter

  • Concerns among working-age parents regarding food costs have risen to levels last observed in November 2022, a period of high inflation.
  • A Which? study found that 87 per cent of working-age parents were worried about food prices in mid-August, a six percentage point increase since May.
  • The consumer insight tracker also revealed a decline in working parents' confidence in the future UK economy and their household finances ahead of the new school year.
  • Across all demographics surveyed, 82 per cent expressed concern over food prices, with 81 per cent worried about energy costs.
  • Which? cautioned that financial pressures are likely to intensify with the onset of winter and advised those struggling with essential bills to seek immediate help from providers or free debt advice.
