Parents 'livid' at last minute closure of Dublin school due to hand sanitiser recall

The principal of a school forced to shut following the Virapro hand sanitiser recall said parents were “livid” after the announcement.

Tim O Tuachaigh, head of Gaelscoil Ros Eo in Rush, Co Dublin, only found out about the recall in an email on Thursday night and was frustrated to learn the issue was known about on Tuesday.

He told RTE Radio 1 it was “ridiculous” to find out so late.

He added the school uses anti-bacterial wipes and surface cleaner of the same brand quoted by the Department of Agriculture and these too could be affected. Also forced to shutter was St Patrick’s Boys’ National School in Drumcondra, North Dublin.

School chairperson Anne Looney, chairperson said: “It was 11.20 last night [Thursday] I found myself googling Woodie’s because we were down to where were we going to get a supply.”
