Parents left divided over 'rude' book explaining where sperm comes from

It's fair to say that talking to your kids about 'the birds and the bees' has got to be one of the most awkward moments of parenting.

But, while some parents are happy to be upfront with their kids about where babies come from, others shudder at the mere thought of having to discuss how humans procreate.

So, you can understand why they might look to other resources, such as informative programmes and even books, to save themselves from the red-faced discussions.

However, parents have been left divided over a brutally honest kids' book which explains all of that, thanks to its main character Willy, the sperm.

Where Willy Went: The Big Story of A Little Sperm is an educational book about a sperm called Willy, who lives in Mr Browne and fights against 300 million other sperm for the prized egg.

One mum sparked a debate online after she took to the Family Lowdown Tips & Ideas Facebook group to share her disapproval over the book, which is aimed at five to seven-year-olds.

"Thought I'd buy my daughter a new book and came across this.. in the children's area," she wrote. "We settled for Paddington bedtime stories don't worry."

"Omg really a picture book that informs about biology and anatomy in a healthy way!? And in the children's section too?!! What is the world coming to!! How dare these children learn about their own bodies and the functions they possess may the lord have mercy on their souls," responded one mum, who completely disagreed.

Meanwhile, another added: "My kids love this book - I have a problem with the sperm being called Willy but hey-ho, accepted by intended audience!"

However, others questioned: "Why? Just why?!"
