A school uniform exchange scheme launches today to ease the financial burden on families in Salford .
Items 'in great and excellent condition' have been donated by schools and parents whose children no longer need them.
Every item is washed, ironed and prepared free of charge by The Launch Project, based at Pendleton's St James' House.
A spokesperson said: "The ever rising cost of school uniforms can often place unnecessary stress on families, we believe that the recycling and distribution of school uniforms is vital to the reduction of financial pressure on families.
"With the average total cost of £340 per child per year, families with more than one child often struggle with the provision of adequate uniforms.
"The cost of providing each child with new school uniforms is set to increase by seven per cent per year on an annual basis."

The charity says its 'Uniform Xchange' offers 'an alternative solution to the rising cost while reducing the amount of clothing sent to the landfills'.
It advises a donation of no less than £1 per item and families need to register with the project to benefit.
Referral from other agencies isn't required and the charity works in partnership with other organisations to signpost families to more services if required.
