Parents have welcomed news of plans for improvements to ‘popular’ Colwick Rectory Play Area has been funded £100,000 which will see a revamp that will bring new features described as 'exciting for the kids'. Colwick Rectory Play Area is being funded £99,466 by FCC Communities Foundation, a not-for-profit business.
The improvements to the park are due to begin in the new year and are expected to be completed by the end of February 2023. When the works are being carried out the current play area will be closed.
In addition to the existing play park, the new improvements involve a wheelchair accessible roundabout, zip wire, trampoline, a multi play unit with 17 different features, new swings and more.

Parents shared excitement for the new play facilities being added to the park and are hopeful it will bring more people to the play area. Radu Bodai, told Nottinghamshire Live that the additional features are welcome.
The 38-year-old from Mapperley said: “It’s alright, it could use a few more things for kids to play with. Kids are already coming to it so an improvement will just bring more kids. Any improvements are welcome. “
Colwick resident Barry Miller, said that it will attract more people to the park. The 67-year-old said: “It’s a nice park, when I'm down here with the kids there’s plenty of people that use it. It’s going to get more people coming to the park.”
A mum of one who gave the name Jess told Nottinghamshire Live: “Having something new would be good I suppose. It will definitely bring more people here, more kids.”
Mum of one Tina Long , 36, said the park is already popular. She said: “I think it’s something exciting for the kids. It sounds as if it will be really good. It’s already such a popular park and with these improvements I think it will be really good.”
The improvements are funded by the FCC Communities Foundation, which awards grants for community, conservation and heritage projects from funds donated by waste and resource management company FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund. The funding bid to FCC was made jointly by Gedling Borough Council and Colwick Parish Council.

Alison Nunn, Chair of Colwick Parish Council said: "This project will provide much needed improvements to a well-used play area, with more modern and inclusive play equipment being installed.
"I would like to thank Gedling Borough Council for all the hard work in collating the grant funding application, and to the FCC Community Foundation, for awarding us the funding, Colwick Parish Council would not have been able to update this play area without their support."
Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke MBE said: “One of our key priorities is to provide an attractive and suitable environment that people can enjoy, such as by investing in and improving existing parks and open spaces.
"We know how popular this play area already is, but we want to make it the best that it can be. These improvements will make a huge difference to the local community and the people who visit this park.
"I’d like to thank FCC for providing the funding to make these improvements a reality, and to the members of Colwick Parish Council who we worked with on this application to help secure the funding.”
