Parents hit back at trolls over baby name and say 'we are not Satanists'

Picking the perfect name for your child can be tricky, and two parents have faced backlash for the 'strong' name they chose for their son and they hit back at the trolls.

The parents from Edinburgh have defended their decision, as the dad, Damien, 34, wanted to give his son a name similar to his own, so he decided to call him Lucifer.

The pair grew attached to the name and couldn't think of anything else that would suit the child when he was born back in 2019, and it made headlines as one of the most unusual names of the year.

Speaking at the time, the two parents spoke out against haters and said the name at least had benefits, as on Halloween Lucifer can go dressed as himself.

What do you think of the name Lucifer? Let us know in the comments...

Speaking to The Sun, Damien said: "I thought my name was unusual, but then you started hearing more Damiens about. I was trying to think of a name that stands out.

"I looked it up. I wasn’t too sure about Lucifer but eventually said, ‘I want this name’. It would have been even better if he was born on Halloween.

The boy's mum, who remained anonymous, said: "We put a lot of thought into it - There’s nothing wrong with what we’ve done. We are not Satanists. At Halloween, he won’t have to wear an outfit. He can go as himself."

Meanwhile, a mum from Plymouth, Devon, has spoken out after she too received negative comments for the name she picked for her son after appearing on a TV debate criticising baby names.

Josie Barnes, 27, called into the debate on the Jeremy Vine show while they were discussing whether it was rude to criticise people's choice of baby name.

She had called her seven-month-old son Lucifer and also has a six-year-old daughter with six middle names.
