Parents give son Star Wars inspired name and people say it's 'ruined their week'

Parents love to take inspiration from the big screen when picking out names for their children - and it makes sense, why not name your child after someone you hope they will emulate one day? As such, heroes' and adventurers' names often end up at the top of popularity lists.

But some people think two parents have gone too far after hearing their son's Star Wars inspired name. Fans of the franchise even went so far as to say the example should serve as a warning to other families about how much is too much, when it comes to children's names.

Film and TV fans recongised the name (Disney)

The strongest concern came from Reddit users who feared the name sounds 'fake' after it was shared to a forum. In the post, the author revealed one family chose to name their son 'Mandalorian Michael'.

Understandably, most people quickly connected the name to the Disney+ show, The Mandalorian, and Star Wars jokes quickly followed.

"This is NOT the way," read one popular reply. Meanwhile, someone else questioned: "Why not Din instead lol its [sic] not as completely scarring," and another suggested: "Or Mandy for short!"

Another unimpressed fan commented: "Being so attached to a franchise that you'd name an actual kid after it…" while another wrote: "Just no."

While someone else said: "This ruined my week and the week just started."

Of course, the key with any name is choosing something both the parents and child are likely to enjoy, but people were nonetheless unconvinced.

"Heads up to parents you can be a fan of something but not go this far. It's possible to like something but not name your kids after it especially if that name is Mandalorian," said another well-liked comment.

The Reddit user added: "Please learn from all the Khaleesi's of the world. Especially when they could have just been named Dani/Dany because that's the nickname or short version of her actual name.

"Also technically his name isn't actually Mandalorian that's just his title like how Dani was titled as Khalessi. It's Din Djarin according to google."
