Parnts were urged yesterday to check if they are entitled to the Back To School Allowance as they have just one week left to apply.
The scheme provides a one-off payment to eligible families towards the cost of clothes and footwear.
Social Protection Minister Regina Doherty called for anyone who has not yet applied to do so before the closing date next Monday.
So far €51.7million has been provided to families under the scheme with €150 paid for each eligible child aged four to 11. This rises to €275 for those aged 12 to 22.
To qualify, a person must be receiving a specified social welfare payment or taking part in a training, employment or adult education scheme.
More than 138,000 families have received an allowance payment under the programme this year. Application forms are available at all Intreo Centres, via SMS (text Form BTSCFA followed by customer’s name and address to 51909) or by emailing BSCFA@welfare.ie.
