Parents divided over bathing children everyday amid Covid fears - but some say once a week is enough

Parents are debating how often your children should have a bath - with some saying as little as twice a week is enough.

Others, however, say they have started bathing their children every day amid coronavirus fears.

The debate split opinion between those who felt daily baths were vital and others who said a couple of times a week was plenty.

Posting on the Family Lockdown Tips and Ideas Facebook page, one mum said: "Hoping you can help settle a debate between my husband and I.

"How often do you bath/shower your kids? We have an almost six-year-old boy."

The mum's post gained more than 3,000 comments from people eager to share their view.

Some said they had increased the number of bath nights due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

One mum said: "Every day now especially because of Covid-19."

Another agreed:"At the moment, they shower and wash hair every school night and once over the weekend, but that’s only because of covid. Before that, it was every other day or when needed."

"Every day. It used to be every other day but with school and Coronavirus we are not risking anything. Hair washed every other day," added a third.

While other mums took a totally different view, with one admitting sometimes her kids are only bathed once a week "if they're busy", although they are washed daily.

She said: "Face and bottom wash every evening bath or shower twice a week, sometimes once if we're busy."

Other parents said twice a week was more than enough.

One said: "Twice a week, my son's 9. Sunday night before school om Monday and midweek Wednesday unless he's been particularly sweaty or has got himself covered in something. Once hormones kick in it'll be a different story."

"Twice a week with 10 year-old boy," added another.

While others said too much bathing children could lead to preoblems.

One said: "To be honest it massively depends on the child and their skin etc. If your child suffers from any dry skin, eczema etc, then twice a week is enough otherwise it dries their skin out."

A mum-of-five said she bathed them all every day: "With 5 kids i shower them every night if there not at school sometimes twice a day depending on how dirty they get it’s all part of the kids routine dinner shower books bed."
