Parents describe the 'bedlam' of dropping their kids off at school this week

Hundreds of parents have taken their kids back to school in Nottinghamshire this week - but how have they found dropping them off at the gates?

Has it been difficult keeping to social distancing rules? Has parking been okay? Was it an emotional moment?

We asked our Nottinghamshire Live readers to describe their experiences.

Many of the comments we received did not paint a good picture at the school gates.

Public Health had previously warned parents to keep their social distance when collecting or picking up their children to avoid close contact with other families.

This was to stop the spread of Covid-19 in outdoor spaces.

A picture taken at pick up time at Sycamore Academy in St Ann's shows parents gathering at the main gates on Abbotsford Drive.

The school reopened to all year groups apart from the youngest two years, on Thursday, September 3.

One parent described picking up his kids at the school gates as "a free for all."

He said: "It's like a free for all. Might as well get every kid to lick and cough on each other."

Another parent described it as "bedlam" while another called it "a nightmare."

One said: "I have 4 of them (children) and all 4 start school 30 minutes apart from each other and finish as well. Terrible."

Another added: "Difficult. Three kids at different schools, different gates, dropping off at the same time and waiting 35 minutes for one of them to finish."

But some parents had a good experience.

One said: "Best it’s ever been for me. I have 3 at secondary school and 1 at primary school so I drop my year 1 off at school and the other 3 do the 5-minute walk to secondary school from there and I’m on time for work at 9am."
