Parents demand more safety after alleged knife incidents at Falkirk schools

Parents in Falkirk are demanding additional safety measures from the council and police after two separate alleged knife incidents at schools.

An 11-year-old was reported to the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration after claims he was in possession of a blade at a primary school in the area on Tuesday October, 19.

Officers rushed to the scene at around 3:30pm, but say nobody was injured during the incident.

It's the second alleged incident to have involved a knife at a school in the area.

We told you previously how cops were alerted to the incident at Bo'ness Academy at around 10:30am on Wednesday October, 6, and found the weapon in the school grounds.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Parents of children at schools in the county say more has to be done to keep children safe.

One said: "This is just truly shocking - and absolutely frightening. Not just for those involved, but for parents like me who have kids at school.

"This is not something you expect to read, never mind read it twice in the space of two weeks.

"It's about time teachers started checking school bags to see exactly what pupils are carrying on them.

Another parent said: "That's the second time within two weeks a child has reportedly take a knife into school.

"It's only a matter of time before someone is injured and therefore something needs to be done quickly to protect other pupils and their teachers.

"I'm not quite sure what can be done, but that's down to Police Scotland and Falkirk Council."

Falkirk Council today reiterated that there is no place for knives in their schools.

A Falkirk Council spokesperson said: "Everyone in the school community including parents, teachers and pupils appreciates that knives have no place in schools/

"On the very rare occasion where a pupil brings a knife to school, it is reported very quickly to staff who will involve the Police and parents/carers.

"We must stress that it is still exceptionally rare for this type event to occur in schools."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers received a report around 3.30pm on Tuesday, 19 October, of a pupil believed to be in possession of a knife at a primary school in Falkirk.

"Nobody was injured and an 11-year-old boy will be the subject of a report to the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration."

"Officers are working closely in partnership with the school and the local authority to provide suitable support to all involved."
