Parents dare son to wear hot dog costume in school ID photo - and teachers let him

A school let a pupil wear a hot dog costume in his school ID photograph after his parents dared him.

Craig Arsenault says he "couldn't be happier" after son Jake, thought to be aged ten, wore the crazy garb for the snap.

And bizarrely, Biddeford Intermediate School near Portland, Maine, let the youngster pose as a hot dog for his 2019-2020 ID card.

"The school let him do it, and I couldn't be happier," Craig, whose Facebook page says he was in the US Army, wrote on Facebook on Thursday night.

Speaking to Fox News , the father added: "Jake asked what he should wear for his school picture. My wife suggested the hot dog costume.

"He was hesitant, so we bet him 10 bucks he wouldn't do it.

“We love the picture. Probably the only school photo we’ll ever buy.”

The photograph has since sent social media into meltdown.

More than 6,000 people - many of whom are strangers - liked the Facebook status and its been shared more than 29,000 times.

"Me as a parent," wrote one person.

Others tagged their partners to beg they do that to their children.

"We need to do this," said one mother.

But the post disturbed some people.

"Please stop putting kids on social media," read one comment.

Jake is in the fourth grade at Biddeford Intermediate School, which has been contacted for comment.

More than 350 pupils attend the school.
