Parents create a bear hunt to keep kids entertained during coronavirus lockdown

Teddy bears are popping up in windows across the North East in a bid to keep kids entertained during the coronavirus lockdown.

This fun idea, inspired by the Michael Rosen children's book We're Going on a Bear Hunt, was introduced on Facebook and is aiming to keep a smile on little one’s faces during uncertain times.

People are placing teddy bears in windows that are visible from the road, so families on a walk or drive can spot them without having to interact with others.

After placing a teddy bear people are then asked to spread the word through social media so families can find them while on their very own bear hunt in the local community.

Following government announcement of only going out for exercise once a day, this hunt could be perfect for families to keep their little ones entertained.

Although this a great way of bringing families together in the community, care should be taken to social distance and there should be a two metre gap when passing others.

And kids are now taking the bear hunt very seriously.

Many have been drafting up walking routes, making a list of bears they have spotted and are competing to see who can find the most bears.

Linda Davenport is a single mum and has found it hard to keep her four-year-old daughter Eva and 10-year-old son Daniel entertained.

But taking her children out on the bear hunt has been a great distraction and lifted the family's spirits.

The 43-year-old mum from Killingworth said: “The hunt is bringing people together and putting smiles on children's faces at the same time.

“It is going to be hard to find things for my children to do but they absolutely love this. It's great to see them enjoying themselves through this worrying and terrifying time.

"It’s even just lovely to look out my window and seeing families taking part in the hunt and seeing them all enjoying spending time together."
