The remains found inside a submerged 4WD off Sandstone Point have been identified as missing Caboolture mother Amy Schulkins, her parents have confirmed.

The 36-year-old's Nissan Patrol was found by police in the Pumicestone Passage, north of Brisbane, on Friday and were found to have human remains inside.

Ms Schulkins had been missing since December 30.

Her mother, Lee Schulkins, told the ABC their family wanted to thank the community for keeping their daughter's story alive and in the public's mind.

"Allan and I are so grateful for all the support for Amy," she told the ABC.

"If anyone is struggling and not coping, please reach out for help wherever you can."

The Schulkins said they were very grateful for the help and expertise of former Queensland detective come private investigator Jason Gouge, who volunteered his services to help find Amy.

The identification of her remains marks the end of a months-long search to find her.

Her parents traversed thousands of kilometres conducting their own land and water searches, including inspecting the Caboolture River with sonar technology.

Police widened the scope of their search for Amy after land searches failed to find the missing mother.

They then found the vehicle at about 8:00am on Friday, about 50 metres from the Spinnakers Boat Ramp at Sandstone Point.

The car underwent forensic examination after being towed from the water.

The 36-year-old's disappearance generated significant community interest, with a dedicated Facebook page attracting more than 30,000 followers from around the world.
