Parents come together to rebuild Perry Court School play area following fire

Parents have come together to replace play equipment which was burnt down by suspected arsonists at a Whitchurch primary school.

Perry Court School's nursery outdoor play area, including its climbing frames and slides, was Perry Court School's primary and nursery playground burnt down by arsonists (April 15).

The shed containing equipment for both the nursery kids and reception year pupils also went up in flames during the incident shortly before 6.30pm.

A Gofundme page to replace the equipment lost in the fire has now been set up by 22-year-old Chloe James, who went to Perry Court School as a child.

"It made me angry that someone would do that," she said.

"When I heard about it, I set the page up immediately.

"The support has been overwhelming knowing we have got so much already and it keeps coming in.

"My phone is going off constantly."

A statement on the Gofundme page reads: "Earlier today the nursery playground in the local Whitchurch school of Perry Court was burned down, leaving the nursery playground without hardly any equipment.

"Please give as little or as much as you can to help rebuild this for our kids that attend the school."

Rachel Wilson commented on the page: "I know how much the children loved this equipment and always looked after it brilliantly. Good luck with the fundraising."

Another person added: "Have donated - my children don't attend this school, but know how underfunded local schools can be, so hope my small donation helps."

So far, nearly £200 has been raised online while around £300 has been donated in person. The money will go towards replacing the play area's Wendy house.

Ms James added that several parents have also donated new outdoor toys to the school.
